Greenland Shark, Baie Comeau

Greenland Shark, Baie Comeau

A beautiful piece of American Walnut that was naturally shaped like a shark including gills, nose, and even a concavity for an eye - was perfect for creating the much overlooked and rarely seen Greenland Shark.

One of natures longevity miracles, the Greenland Shark roams the cold waters of the Canadian coast living up to and even surpassing 500 years of age! A gentle creature, it has never been known to attack a human being (outside of a possible report from 1859... true story).

Even to this day, not much is known about the Greenland shark as they remain elusive in nature.

In the shallows near the eastern Quebec city of Baie Comeau, these sharks have been known to gather and prowl for food and it is currently the only known place in the world where you can spot them with any sort of consistency.

Multiple layers of epoxy were used to recreate the murky waters and the types of prey encountered in the shallows that the Greenland shark carefully swim through. A very thin copper sheet was pounded into place to represent it's mouth. It's fin was crafted with purpose to show the sharks true color scheme as well as having it's awkward 'square' looking fin literally burnt in place. The piece of wood representing this gentle beast is itself over 175 years old based on the rings!

Beautiful, gentle, and an amazing part of nature - this should be considered as Canada's national shark!

This piece weighs nearly 80 lbs and is approximately 72" Wide x 48" High x 3" Deep
