Cutting Boards

Cutting Boards

Using food safe epoxy and hardwax and finished with food-grade mineral oil to both seal and protect the cutting boards - these pieces are too nice to cut things on! The wood is worked until the end result is something you want to have on display in your kitchen. Every one is unique in one way or another.

Several currently available include some beautiful eastern cedars and a large dark walnut with the perfect live edge!

Cedar, a soft-wood, actually makes a great cutting board when well seasoned and properly finished so it won't splinter as well as sanding down the surface pores. Cedar is naturally resistant to bacteria and fungus, as well as having it's oil act as a natural insecticide helping to keep insects from wanting to make a meal of this!

Cedar cutting boards used to be the standard in the early pioneer days and have stood the test of time!

The Steps I undertake for each cutting board are as follows:

  • Source Material Acquisition

  • Seasoned for 3+ years minimum

  • Cutting and Planing

  • Sanding, Sanding, Sanding...

  • Detailing/Epoxy work

  • Hardwax Oil (Food Grade) x 3 coats on bottom of board

  • Sanding

  • Surface saturation for a minimum of 1 hour x 5 sessions

  • Polishing

Taking about 8 hours to make each (spread out over weeks).

While I recommend seasoning your board at least once a month - all my boards come with free once-a-year re-saturation! Just drop the board off and I'll take care of the rest!
